If you’ve ever been to Westcliffe, Colorado (pop. 456), you rank among an adventurous (or hopelessly lost) few. This tiny, mountain-ringed town is where at age 12, Gregor’s shot of rodeo bull riders hit the local paper’s front page and earned him 25 bucks. A career—and a yearning for the high rent and pollution only the city could offer—was born. A photo journalism degree and newspaper stint behind him, Gregor packed his motorcycle and set off for the unexplored. Sort of. He landed in New York, where he worked with Gregory Heisler, learning about then-experimental digital photography and the impossible weight of a case of camera gear. Gregor began experimenting with his own still lifes and soon opened his own studio in Soho. Click clients to see what comes of a fence-rust kid who leaves it all behind for the bright lights.
